First reporting: A $12.6 million federal grant is jumpstarting Beaufort's Boundary Street Master Plan with major roadway improvements, part of that plan is developing a road parrallel to and north of Boundary Street.

That road ties into the overal goal of building a better Beaufort through strategic investment in Boundary Street that will create a more scenic entry to the city, provide better commercial and retail locations, improve traffic conditions and make it possible to better utilize privately-owned adjoining properties. Proponents point out that a parallel road will offer ways to reduce traffic congestion and make traveling through the Port Royal Island neck easier.

Still, new road developments mean some existing properties would be demolished and developed, while firm plans have yet to be layed, The Island Packet shares the story of a pair of homeowners that are saying no way, no how. You can read that article here and check out a more detailed graphic of planned developments here.
