Update: The library Census introduction has been rescheduled for Friday, June 22, from 10 to noon, reserve a seat by calling 843-255-6468.
On April 2, the National Archives will unveil three years of digitization work and make the 1940 Census available for all of us right from our computers.
Now, that's nifty, but it's the sort of national news we'd usually skip — except that there will be a ton of great local data in that unveiling and the folks over at the Beaufort District Collection are pretty dang excited.
In fact, they'll be offering a program on the 1940 Census on Friday, May 4, from 10 a.m. until noon — registration will open April 13. You must pre-register in person at the Beaufort District Collection Research Room Reference desk or call 843-255-6468 to reserve a seat.
So, watch the video up top, bookmark http://www.1940census.archives.gov/ — we'll be bookmarking it, too, and seeing what fun finds await in the data.
We'll be sure to share what we find.
