Interactive Rice Harvest -September 12, 15, 24, 2009
It’s harvest time on the plantation! Join a costumed interpreter at the rice field overlook to learn how Carolina Gold rice was harvested on Low Country plantations. This interactive program, offered at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm, will also enable participants to understand how the grain went from the field to the plate as they learn about the laborious task of processing the grain after harvest.
Carolina Gold rice, the crop responsible for making Charleston one of the richest cities, has been planted in the garden rice field at Middleton Place National Historic Landmark for the seventh consecutive year. The propagation of Carolina Gold rice provides an excellent visual tool for visitors and expands Middleton Place Foundation’s interpretation of rice cultivation and African American culture.
Middleton Place will offer visitors three different interactive programs. Each program will take place at the demonstration area of the garden rice field and are included in regular Garden admission. Regular gate admission is $25 Adults, $5 Children; tickets can be purchased on-line for $20.
Middleton Place is located at 4300 Ashley River Road.
