Clear skies ahead for the weekend
Update April 29: The severe weather system that rolled through the Carolinas yesterday spared the Holy City, however, three tornadoes were reported in the Midlands.
The State reports that EF1 tornados touched down in Calhoun County and Sumter County, and an EF0 hit the Shiloh community. Luckily, damage from the three twisters was minimal.
As you can see on the map above, the system has moved on and it's smooth sailing ahead. Temperatures are to reach 80 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday with lows around 60 degrees. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is calling for clear skies and a lovely weekend.
First reporting: The folks in the Midlands have been getting hammered early this morning by the approaching cold front, and now heavy rain is due to hit Charleston late this morning and early this afternoon.
Look for the rain to start around 9 a.m., peak from 11 to 2 p.m., and trail through the evening — and expect a healthy dose of wind and thunder to go with it all. The National Weather Service says as much as 3/4 of an inch could be recorded.
Large hail and tornados are also a significant possibility.
The high should hit 85 and signal a cooler Friday and Saturday with highs in the high-70s.
On the upside, you're almost free from the April weather madness.
